Maslahah is a well-established principle within the Islamic banking industry, employed to ensure the continuous preservation of Shariah compliance. While numerous previous studies have discussed the concept and scope of maslahah for application within Islamic banking institutions, the criteria for its determination must be carefully considered by relevant parties to ensure that all operations and services incorporate its essential elements. Consequently, the objective of this study is to identify these elements and their application within the operations of Islamic banking institutions. This research utilizes a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology, collecting and analyzing relevant articles from high-impact journals and academic databases. The analysis follows a four-stage process: identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion. For result, a total of 28 articles were selected for review and discussion. Overall, the findings classify existing research into three themes: maslahah concerning products, organizations, and society. The study also identifies six elements of maslahah discussed by previous scholars for application in Islamic banking. However, the literature review indicates that these elements predominantly focus on banking products, with limited discussion on organizational and societal aspects. Furthermore, there are divergent views among scholars regarding the conditions for using maslahah as a legal source. It is hoped that this research will assist policymakers, Shariah advisors, and researchers in establishing appropriate benchmarking parameters for maslahah in Islamic banking.
